Rod mill is a commonly used grinding machine, which is named after the steel rod (grinding media) loaded in the cylinder. It can be divided into the wet grinding type and dry grinding type, suitable for fine crushing and coarse grinding of various brittle materials. It is widely used in the coal industry, building materials industry, chemical plants, and other industries with high requirements for finished product uniformity.

The structure of the rod mill is the same as the ball mill. The main difference is that the grinding media inside the rod mill is steel rods, while the ball mill adopts steel ball as the grinding media. Besides, the rod mill does not use grate plates for material discharging but applies open type, overflow type, or peripheral type discharge device.

ROD MILL TYPES

Rod mills can be classified into the wet grinding type and dry grinding type. The wet-type rod mill is more commonly used. According to different discharge modes, it can be further divided into overflow type rod mill, open type rod mill, and peripheral discharge rod mill.

Open type rod mill: there is a horn-shaped overflow port in the center of the discharge end. To avoid material slurry splashing and steel rod sliding out, the overflow port is blocked by a fixed conical cover. The material slurry will overflow through the annular space between the port and the cover.

Peripheral discharge rod mill: except for the discharge mode, its structure is the same as the overflow rod mill. In view of the advantages of high efficiency and low energy consumption, it has been widely used in the market.

Overflow type rod mill: the discharge size of the overflow type rod mill is finer than the other two rod mills, and it is generally used together with a ball mill.

ROD MILL WORKING PRINCIPLE

The rod mill is mainly composed of the feeding part, cylinder, transmission device, coupling, discharging part, steel rod, lining plate, and so on.

The motor drives the cylinder to rotate through a reducer and a big gear. The cylinder is filled with grinding media (steel rod) and raw material. Under the action of centrifugal force and friction, they are lifted to a certain height, then drop and collide with each other to achieve the purpose of grinding.

The lining plate, vulnerable parts, and core components of the rod mill are made of high-quality and wear-resistant raw materials. It has a low failure rate and long service life during the operation.
