The conical ball mill is a commonly used ball mill grinder in industrial production. It can realize the dry grinding and wet grinding of various ores and other grindable materials. It is widely used in the beneficiation, building materials industry, chemical industry, and other industries.

The construction of a conical ball mill is different from the traditional ball mill. It adds a conical-sized drum at the discharge end. This unique conical structure enables a natural grading of grinding media and materials of different sizes. The large-sized grinding media locates at the feeding end (maximum diameter section) and the small-sized grinding media gathers at the discharge end (conical section) so that materials can obtain great impact at the feeding end to complete rough grinding, and then do fine grinding at the discharge end. This is equivalent to installing a permanent classifier in the ball mill, which avoids the phenomenon of over-grinding and achieves the purpose of energy-saving and consumption reduction.

CONICAL BALL MILL STRUCTURE

The conical ball mill is mainly composed of the cylinder body, transmission part, feeding and discharging device, motor, bearing, lining plate, grinding media, etc. It has some technical improvements based on the traditional ball mill:

Cylinder body: a section of the cone-shaped drum is added at the discharge end to improve the processing capacity and equipment volume.

Main bearing: it uses a rolling bearing instead of a sliding bearing. This reduces the main journal size, lights the equipment weight, decreases the friction torque, and prolongs the service life.

Transmission part: the unique transmission mode improves the stress condition of the main bearing, reduces the cylinder buckling stress and the gear diameter. It cuts down the weight of the ball mill by 30%~50% so that the manufacturing cost is saved.

Lining plate: it uses an annular groove liner instead of the corrugated liner, with a noise reduction of 5~6dB and a motor power reduction of 30%~60%.

CONICAL BALL MILL WORKING PRINCIPLE

The cylinder body of the conical ball mill rotates around the axis through the transmission device. After materials entering the grinding chamber from the feeding end, they are constantly thrown up and then fall, colliding with the grinding media to reduce the particle size. Due to the continuous feeding, materials in the cylinder ceaselessly move toward the discharge end until they are discharged from the ball mill to complete the whole grinding process.

The conical ball mill has unique characteristics in structure. That is the discharge end is designed to be conical. This structure not only increases the effective volume of the ball mill but also realizes a classification of materials and grinding media in the chamber. Generally, the closer to the discharge end, the smaller the size of the grinding media. It greatly improves the fineness of the product.
