The attritor ball mill, also known as stirred ball mill, is a kind of vertical ball mill. It can be divided into dry type and wet type, suitable for grinding a variety of materials, such as industrial ceramics, fireproof materials, silicate materials, metal powder, ores, etc. It is equipped with an agitation system inside the grinding cylinder. The diameter of steel balls (grinding media) is generally 3-10 mm, and the material is determined by the grinding material characteristics, either carbon steel, chromium steel, stainless steel, alumina, zirconia, silicon nitride, cemented carbide, or ceramics can be selected.

The attritor ball mill has the characteristic of simple operation, high grinding efficiency, and strong fine grinding and ultra-fine grinding ability. The attritor ball mill is mainly composed of a grinding cylinder, agitator, lining plate, grinding media, driving system, frame, pneumatic diaphragm pump, and lubrication system.

Cylinder Cover: it can be used with a floating shaft seal for grinding under inert gas.
Driving System: it adopts avariable speed drive, suitable for different revolving speed requirements. 
Agitator Sleeve: the agitator should be installed with a plastic, tungsten carbide, or zirconia sleeve for grinding without metal ion pollution.
Cylinder Lining Plate: it is made of ceramic (alumina), ceramic tile, rubber, tungsten carbide, or polyurethane. Different liners are suitable for grinding different raw materials. That should depend on the specific situation.

The motor and reducer drive the agitator in the grinding cylinder rotating rapidly. Multi metal rods are vertically and spirally arranged on the agitator. In the rotation process, grinding media (steel balls) and raw materials in the grinding cylinder make a circular motion under the action of the agitator and produce friction and impact forces with each other so that the material is ground to the desired particle size. Generally, the grinding time is 1-2 hours. The grinding fineness is changed with the grinding time.

The stirred ball mill is equipped with a pneumatic diaphragm pump. During the whole grinding process, materials are recycled from bottom to top, which realizes a more evenly grinding.

Application Range

The horizontal ball mill is available with various kinds of ores and other grindable materials. The vertical ball mill is suitable for grinding materials with coarse and hard particles.


The vertical ball mill has high versatility, but in terms of production capacity, its upgrade space is not as large as that of the horizontal ball mill.
